I have hard copies of most of the stories, not that that will do most people much good. They were extremely well written and I really enjoyed them. But it used to drive me crazy that the first chapter of a new story would show up before any of a half a dozen other stories were finished. I was really upset when they quit posting updated chapters. I wanted to find out what happened!

Which stories did they finish?

And hang onto those hard copies--it seems they're rare commodities. :)

The Last Full Monty was wonderful and funny and didn't even put Trip at death's door. At least, not for long.

Alas The Devil to Pay is not at all finished. :( And I don't speak Vulcan, so I don't have a clue what T'Pol was telling him other than the occasional endearment I managed to catch. (Why would a fanfic author assume we are going to go translate passages of Vulcan???) :( Still, it's a powerful scene.

^^ My guess is that she was probably going to put translations at the end, like she did for "Duct Tape and Poker Faces." But since there was no end...

You could always play cryptographer: The Vulcan Language Dictionary

Eh. Maybe if I could go to google translator for Vulcan or something. Real life intrudes. I've got to write a long brochure about variable annuity benefit riders and I have about a dozen tomatoes and twenty or so peppers and eggplants to get in the ground and Memorial Day is coming up which means actually visiting real live family members.

I managed to break my only "Brandy Boy" tomato off at the base a few days ago (^&$#%) but was unwilling to give up, so I buried the stem in the garden and covered the tip with row cover. It's still alive out there, probably thanks to the damp cool weather. Maybe it will actually root. There's also an offshoot rooting in a glass. I am determined to have brandy boys this year! Not sure why I'm so determined since I have 9 other varieties going and not enough space for them anyway, but whatever. You can always find a place to shove in another tomato. I think I might drill a few holes in some Tidy Cats plastic litter buckets... I've had pretty good luck making self-watering containers by throwing some packing peanuts in the bottom, putting the hole up six inches on the side, and running a column of potting soil all the way down to the bottom.

I wish I still had Ligeia's and Maggies stories too. I used to have them on my old computer before it crashed.Their stories should be saved so other people can read them.

Maybe we could prod one of our illustrious admins to try to get in touch with them - someone must have an email addy for them somewhere? :poke: Then at least we could post the finished stories on TriS. I hate it when things disappear from the internet.

Great Idea Drogna if someone could get in contact with them and see if they'd allow their stories to be posted here or elsewhere. i've been wanting to read Interlocutor and Orator again.

I've dropped a line to Bucky at HoT. If she doesn't know where they are, then I'm at a loss. Anybody else used to read the stories at Triptofan and might have a contact email?

Brainstorm. I'll post something at the HoT BB.

Here's Bucky's response to my email, for anyone who's interested in pursuing this.

I saw your notice in the HoTBBS, but unfortunately, I can't help. I have no "Ligeia" nor "Maggie" in my email list of T/T authors. I did a search under "author" at FF.N and got two "Ligeia's"--neither writing Enterprise stories. There were more "Maggie's," but I didn't go through them all. It's probably worth doing a search by title, since authors sometimes have to change their names at FF.N--especially common ones. Otherwise, try what Tripsyatlady suggested and post a help request in the Trip and Trip/T'Pol threads at TrekBBS (but wear blinders--don't get sucked into "Angie's" (she of A/T'P loyalties) 'bad acting' thread about "Forgiven.")

Also, isn't there something like "the wayback machine" at google where one can find any site archived? I'm not the one to ask how to get there, but I know the "caches" are saved somewhere. Other possibities include emailing others who might have contact with them. Try Becky at "Becky's Sentinel Site" http://www.kelesa.net" Contact info: <bbrewste@sprynet.com>. Her last update was May 28. Another possible contact is at The Allegoric Hegemony "http://allegoric.thehegemony.org/" (contact info in site).

I'll let Myst know the "Triptofan" link is dead. Maybe she has an email for one of the admins, but it's not likely. I usually sent her site links.

I wish I could have been more help. It's frustrating when sites go down and we're left hanging. I'm guessing the admins ran into the same weariness and lack of time that Myst and I did, and didn't have the resources to keep the site running that HoT does.

I tried the wayback machine. Besides the finished and unfinished stories already mentioned upthread, I retrieved their wallpapers (some really gorgeous ones), lyrics to some of their musicvids, a few commentaries on episodes...not much. :( Anyone who saved or printed out the fanfiction has the pearls of great price, I think.

Here's the response I got from Ligeia. Sounds like she's moved on, but wants to keep her options open, so we need to sit back, wait, and keep our mitts off her stories... or something to that effect. :?

I am/was the administrator of Triptofan and one of the two authors who
posted stories there. While slim, there is a chance that some of the
stories may be finished in the future. I am still interested in
finishing my works (primarily Orator, A Vision of Power, and Devil to
Pay as these actually have completed plots in an outline) and I do have
some material on these stories that was never posted to the Internet.
What free time I have to spend writing at the moment is being used to
work on an original piece that I do hope to try to publish upon its
completion. So fanfiction has slipped to the wayside.

Triptofan, unfortunately, was run from a personal server which I can no
longer support due to a lack of bandwidth (bandwidth I now need to be
able to run a business from my home). Time had previously been a
factor, so I decided to take down the server. Due to the size and
bandwidth requirements for the site, using a free host really wasn't an
option and I don't have the money to spend on it at the moment. The
website, of course, still exists in an archival form in the chance that
I decide to post it again.

As for the stories there, well, I certainly can't stop anyone from
finishing them, though I'm strictly against the idea (as is the other
author who had stories posted there). If someone wants to write an
ending for their own enjoyment, we can't stop them. But we would prefer
that such endings aren't publicly hosted anywhere. Also, we would
prefer at this juncture that none of our stories was made available in
any form on the internet. If people have copies and want to e-mail them
to each other, once again, we cannot stop them. But I would prefer not
to have it posted on a forum or a fanfiction library without permission.

Sorry about the length of the e-mail, but I felt a bit of explanation
was worth sending to you considering the number of messages I've
received about the site in the past few days. I'm guessing you can
relay the information, being that it almost seems something of an
organized effort. ;-)

Interesting, disappointing and rather surprising. Most authors want their stories to be read... :dunno:
