On Laundry
Was the issue of laundry ever addressed on-screen? I don't recall, but of course it doesn't make scintillating television.
Next week on Star Trek: Enterprise...
Trip: "Cap'n, we've got a problem. [dramatic pause] That last firefight took out the laundry room on C Deck."
Archer: "Make that your #1 priority!"
cut to T'Pol in Sickbay: "Under the circumstances I feel the need to resume use of my nasal inhibitor."
Phlox: "I'm sorry, Commander, but when you stopped using it... well, it will take me several days to synthesize enough."
cut to Travis trying to get his arms in his uniform sleeves, which are stiff
fade into Archer: "Trip, this has gone on long enough!"
Heh. Anyway, I see four basic scenarios for laundry on the ship:
1. Laundry is sent off to the laundry department, then returned. Hopefully, to the same person who sent it.
2. Laundry is done by individual crewmembers in one of a couple laundromat- style rooms.
3. Crew quarters have a small washer/dryer.
4. Officers' quarters have personal washer/dryers, and enlisted use the laundromat-style rooms.

Re: On Laundry
Probably option 2. But you don't want to blow up the ship's laundry!!! Trust me, I know this.

I'm glad this topic got brought up. I've wondered this many times myself.

Re: On Laundry
Interesting topic.
I think the Xindi attack took out the water supply for a while. Everyone is really dirty for several days. So, then, no laundry services either. I'd imagine every crew member has a few uniforms to rotate between, and assuing they weren't damaged or destroyed they could change into fresh ones, but Trip in particular looks grungy (cute, but grungy) during that time.

Re: On Laundry
That, and even if the water worked, a lot of the bathrooms appeared to be just too busted up to be usable. I remember a scene where T'Pol went to splash water on her face, and everything is all broken and messy, and I'm sure her bathroom wasn't the only one. The sink obviously worked, so hand-washing clothes and sponge-bathing were at least an option.
Otherwise, it doesn't do that much good to put clean clothes onto a dirty body. You're only gonna reduce the stink by so much that way.

Re: On Laundry
Yeah, unless your uniform is covered with oil or something. Then it'd be worthwhile to change.
I myself am enamored of the idea that at least the officers have little personal washer/dryers. Nifty ones that are actually a single machine which both washes and dries.

Not sure it was tactical.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.
But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Re: On Laundry
I was only recently watching Damage and wondering just how the heck the plumbing was still working in T'Pol's quarters... I would have liked it better if we saw her having to get her water out of a container. (Maybe because it's so much a part of OUR lives when we have a power outage here.)

Re: On Laundry
I always thought the officers had a guy who came and picked up their laundry, had it cleaned, and then delivered it back...while the Lower Decks types had to do it themselves.

But wasn't T'Pol dreaming in Damage in the shower scene about the events that took place in Harbinger? I think at that time everything worked fine. (Other then that, she knows a good engineer who can fixed her shower )

Re: On Laundry
I meant when she was washing her face, not the shower scene.
I didn't assume that was something that happened in Harbinger, though. That looked more like a fantasy that hadn't happened yet, to me. An excellent dream to have when you are 1) shower deprived, and 2) Trip deprived, at least until the end there...
