I don't remember Hoshi ever cooking. The obvious guess is Chef, I suppose, even though we never actually saw him. (I choose to disregard FatRiker in a chef's hat, thank you...)

And Distracted is up. (And the episode would be "Damage".) And no, we never saw him or heard of him in this episode, but I thought all those Meals Ready to Eat were so sad, I could safely infer.

It was a very nice Chef's POV. 8)

Here's an easy one. Please don't guess unless you want to write a poem!!

I wish I could run and play
Like I did when I was small.
And I dream of thick beefsteaks and a neverending supply of cheese.
I am tired of sterile walls and metal deckplates.
I used to be able to dig,
But now I scratch and scratch and scratch... and nothing happens.
I seem to be happy to be the token pet,
But I'm really longing for a nice tree to pee on.

Spot the Cat or was he in another ST?

I suppose it would also work for Spot the Cat in TNG, but he wasn't who I had in mind. As I'm sure you well know, SB. I must say, though, that your response is a very clever way to join the discussion without having to write a poem. ;-)

I've always thought that certain types of animals adapt well to being inside and certain types do not. An animal that gets so much enjoyment from the hunt, IMO, should never be confined permanently indoors. At least there are probably vermin on a starship for a cat to hunt, but rabbits and squirrels would be in pretty short supply, I would think.

Our adopted stray kitty is a natural born hunter, but I can't see letting her out, partly because we already have a feral cat outdoors that wants to kill her, partly because it always shortens their lives, and partly because I feel sorry for the birds. She seems pretty happy transferring all that ferocious energy to play with our other much more mellow cat, who's twice as big but doesn't seem to feel the need to squash her ... much (we adopted him mostly to be a companion to her). However, she also transfers it to other objects around the house pretty much all day long. God help you if you're tying your shoes without paying attention to where she is, and I've given up trying to sleep with her in the room because she likes to pounce on my feet under the sheet. Today she managed to rip a great big hole through Jaime's Father's Day nice thick gift bag in her very first lunge...

I was thinking of Hoshi in that one where everyone lost their marbles - was it Singularity?

Cogito, I think you missed part of the thread. We're on to peeing on trees now...

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't a Cat who has been spayed or neutered make a better indoor cat? Seems I read somewhere that Clipping a Cat takes some of the Feral out of it.

Cats like me. But we don't have one now. wife claims she is alergic to Cat hair. Strange as we had several Cats over the years and she never complained about them.

Well, an unneutered female will go into heat, and that's pretty unpleasant. "Have some dignity," you want to tell her. (Along with "For God's sake, stop that!") An unneutered male is also likely to do some rather odorous marking of his territory.

If throw rugs put you at risk of falling, SB, I can't recommend cats. They can be serious household tripping hazards.

Yeah, I get that Alelou, I'm just commenting on the previous poem because it didn't dare comment at the time.

Ah, okay. Nobody wants to actually make the formal guess, do they?

Yes, Hoshi did cook that soup endlessly in "Singularity."

I was indeed referering to Singularity, the episode where everybody is acting totally obsessed by something and Hoshi is obsessed by cooking her grandmother's "Chinese" soup. With left me with the question if Hoshi grandmother was Chinese. I thought it fitted the poem.

As for dogs peeing on trees, that's gotta be: ANIS. :-p
