I set the rules very loosely because it has been a little quiet around here and I wanted to encourage everyone to participate. I'm enjoying everyone's contributions! So many things to fix, so little time!

OK, this one is exactly a drabble, I believe.

"Commander Tucker! The Universal Translator hardware is running so much better now!"

"I told ya I could supe it up a little."

"How can you just fix anything? What's your degree in?"

Trip rolled his tongue in his cheek. "You think I’m one of those book learnin' engineers? I just worked on boat engines – you learn a lot more that way!"

"You must think I’m gullible.”

“No, I’m serious.”

“Engineering to Commander Tucker – emergency!”

As Trip Tucker, B.S. Physics, M.S. Warp Field Theory ran off down the hall he wondered if he should let Hoshi in on the joke later.

Thanks to SB for the comm interruption cliche

WONDERFUL DRABBLE!

To be clear
Snorpenbass wrote:As for not technically drabbles...mea culpa, no-one's ever actually explained to me exactly how drabbles work, so I just wrote however much I needed.

Snorpenbass Didn't know what a drabble was defined as, and people were referring to their posts as drabbles so I naturally being me got confused. I don't care if people want to post 25 words or 250. But a drabble is 100 words. In case you can't tell I get confused a lot, that's why I put my location as "in a state of constant confusion." People confuse me, especially where lables are concerned.

Putaro, good drabble? but you stopped too soon. Trip Tucker, BS Newtonian physics, Mastersin relativity, Masters in qunatum physics, PHD in Warp field theory. Engineering degree in Warp Drives. the guy has to know all of that to BS the troops.

That's a drabble all by itself :)

Okay, this one has just 100 words. Not more, not less.

Why do Vulcans like so much lying to themselves?
That's offensive, Commander.
Maybe, but it's true. And then, Vulcans are logical. Why take offense? It would be illogical, right?
It would be ... illogical, yes.
Okay.
However ...
However?
However, I do not understand the meaning of your statement, Commander.
You do not understand, T'Pol?
No.
You didn't object against Sim's creation.
Obviously. For our mission's sake.
For our mission's sake?
Exactly.
I'm indispensable.
Exactly.
To our mission.
Exactly.
Just that?
Sure.
You're a liar.
T'Pol watched shamefaced Trip as he was going away, grim-faced.
Yes. She was a liar.

Asso, good drabble but not too hopeful for our favorite couple. Ah well, Keep writing I am sure the next one will be much more romantic.

I won't claim to know what Asso was thinking when he wrote that, but to me it means this:

T'Pol claims that she agreed to the cloning for the good of the mission.

Trip doesn't believe her - he thinks she wanted to save his life for personal reasons (which were probably illogical and emotional).

T'Pol's shamed face at the end suggests that he was probably right.

Well I'm not sure that I'd consider her words a lie. I think it might not have been the entire reason but it was a part of it. So she didn't lie, she held things back. I think the technical term is "omission."

Cogito nailed it. T'Pol is lying when she says that her only reason for not obecting to Sim's creation was that Trip was needed for the mission. Her red face at the end says that she is lying. She wanted Sim created to save Trip's life because she cared for him not the mission.
Trip walks away grim faced; he knows she is lying to him because she won't admit to the truth that she does care for him.

Nice drabble. good explanationn by Cogito.

Well the truth can be contingent on a certain point of view.

Well, of course. The appropriate point of view in this instance is that I'm right and everyone who disagrees is wrong. :P :raspberry:
