But supposing one did want to pinch a little sniff of video production ... where do you start? Is there some handy-dandy 'making star trek videos for fun but no profit" guide somewhere?

I'd also like to put some of our miscellaneous crappy videotapes of our kid into a movie for his dad. Is it just one of those things where you start fiddling with a certain program and it's fairly self-evident? (Because nothing is ever self-evident to me...)

Well, first you need a program that will do this. To my delight, I located an old copy of Windows Movie Maker in the software that came with my first laptop. I'm sure there's a free program available but I haven't any idea which ones are good. Or you can pay money for Sony Vegas, I think it's called.

My preferred method of learning technology is trial and error. ("I wonder what this button does. Hey, look at that!") But I'm sure there are help guides for using different programs.

You can also try asking ek for starter tips, as she's got some good ones.

Thanks, JzK. I think I have some sort of untouched Movie Maker on my computer, so I guess I'll start there. HP has some program they offered me too in one of their endless emails but since their photo program constantly crashes (on my HP computer!!!) I think I'll start with the Windows version.

So there was this "soap opera" challenge where people were supposed to make like videos of like original soap opera scenes. Gah I hate soap operas anyway this is what I came up with...
