I'm sure there are others, Linda. Archetypes aren't set in stone. I just grabbed another book about Villain archetypes which isn't written after the Greek ones but could easily be compared to them.

This covers the archetypal theories that have gained the most recognition in academic circles. (Not just character archetypes, but plot archetypes.)

Thanks, Alelou! This is a great lead. And I also just thought of something, a book I have that I want to reread: The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell who has written a lot on myth. I love this kind of research.

This is a wonderful read, Linda.
I know this book, and it has a bunch of stuff to teach.

We also have the Character Alignment system originally developed for Dungeons & Dragons.

I'm actually developing a novel for NaNoWriMo by starting out with the Greek archetypes. I'm pretty excited about it. I'm getting so many ideas that I can't wait to start.

I did NaNoWriMo a couple of years ago to see if I could actually produce that much text in a month. I did it! So I then knew I was capable of that volume, but it was nothing I ever used. I am better at shorter stories. I hope you not only finish, but produce something you are proud of! thumbsup:

DnD KTR? Always played a paladin, searching for a vorpal sword. See Jabberwocky for all who maybe unenlightened.

^ Haha! I have actually never been a gamer, never played D&D. I just happen to know a little about it. Being a geek, even if not a gaming one, you cannot help to learn a thing or two about other kinds of geeky obsessions.
