I haven't seen it yet, but apparently last night's Castle episode was a take on the SF convention scene and directed by Jonathan Frakes:
http://www.thetvaddict.com/2012/11/05/c ... -spoilers/We'll see if I get a chance to watch this on demand tonight. My husband probably plans to camp out in front of the TV until we know who the President is going to be next year. (I just hope that doesn't take a month.)
I wish for once they could shoot this using actual science fiction TV elements instead of making everything pseudo-whatever because of licensing.

Okay, I finally got around to it (who was I kidding about not watching the election returns), but that Castle episode was cute and very much a loving homage to SF fans. (Not a valentine, thank God.) Also, it's got the best use EVER of William Shatner's awful singing or poetry or whatever the hell it was. Even if you don't generally watch Castle, you might want to see it. It does mention Star Trek and Star Wars and Cylons and "that Joss Whedon show" and so forth quite specifically, too, even if it had to invent another show for the plot.

Wasn't it great? I loved Armin Shimmerman's bit part. Go, Quark. He'll sell you anything for the right price.

I had to order this seed even though I'm not a huge fan of celosia:

Is that an honest-to-goodness variety or did they just rename something else?

I think it's a real variety, distinguished by the funky multiple flower heads. I actually prefer the simple grassy tufts, but I felt I had to honor the name. (The coxcomb type of celosia looks even funkier and more scifi -- like alien brains.
http://www.tsflowers.com/seeds2/celosia ... _mine.htmlSomeday I'd like to try to grow a weird-ass science fiction garden just for kicks.)
What that color has to do with
lilac is beyond me, but then I find that horticultural colors often surprise me. I've bought 'purple' petunia seed was actually flaming magenta, and 'blue' almost always means purple.
