Yes, but you can comfort yourself that it probably would have had ratings that didn't quite reach acceptable profitability and would have gotten canceled after the first season, dooming the idea forever. At this point there are profitable movies, so it could still happen someday.

Can't say as I liked his ideas any better than Abrams.

Babylon 5 was pretty awesome, though. Imagine if the guy who wrote it was writing the next ST series. I'd so watch that.

Mmm... They seem to share the same dislike for holograms as I have against one particular. That aside, Babylon 5 was pretty good and that combined with Spock, Kirk and McCoy...

Really? At least I got the impression Straczynski had actually *seen* one or two Star Trek episodes before, and that he even *liked* them. After seeing the movie, I'm not sure I can say the same about Abrams.

I really don't see how Straczynski's idea could have been any worse than the Abrams movie (which was pretty bad, both as science fiction AND as Star Trek), and it had the potential to be so much better. The comments about not needing a holodeck for adventure were spot on, as was the plan for a five year mission/story arc, which make me think maybe Straczynski 'gets' it.

And what if the series had taken off like nu BSG did (before BSG turned weird)? It could still be on now.

Alas, 'twas not to be.

^ I have to agree with Transwarp, even if I don't like the idea for a reboot, at least JMS's version had potential.

It's old news, and like I said, I don't like his ideas any more than I liked Abrams'. Tribbles with teeth and a plan? Please. And while S2-4 of B5 were pretty decent, pretty much everything he's done since then hasn't exactly been good from what I can tell.
