I suppose we need a thread for JJ Abrams' rebooted Star Trek, so here it is.

Some news: 'Star Trek 2' Release Date: Paramount Lands 'Trek' Sequel on May 17, 2013

Oh, good. More of Spock and Uhura making out in the turbolift. Or maybe after recent events we should expect Spock and Kirk making out in the turbolift. ;-)

I know there's always been slash with those two in the ST fandom universe but I never understood it because part of Kirk's whole essence was the fact that he loves, and is loved by women. Now, I can understand people going in different directions when a character's romantic inclinations are not subject to any scrutiny for example, Checkov... (But that hottie better be on my team!!!!!) However, I don't get the trend of people taking blatently straight characters and making them gay, or openly gay characters and making them straight.

Well, these days it's "in" to bat for both teams. The kids experiment a lot more with that than I ever remember seeing when I was that age. Of course, I was pretty sheltered, so what do I know?

Truth be told I'm more excited about The Dark Knight Rises than I am about the next Trek reboot.

Quite frankly, I cannot really warm up to this reboot malarkey. I mean, they rebooted Trek by blowing up Vulcan fer crying out loud. That's like rebooting The Simpsons by killing off Bart. :banghead: God knows what the person was smoking, who came up with that idea :explode:

I rather liked it. It was shiny and very loud! There were enough plot holes to drive a fleet of truck through but it moved along quickly enough that I didn't notice most of them until later. And Zoe Saldana made a great Uhura!

The lovely Zoe Saldana was, IMNSHO, the only redeeming quality of Abrams Trek...

She's quite lovely, isn't she? Her beauty even came through in Avatar, and we never really even saw her face in that one.

Has the Star Trek sequel found its new villain?

I've never heard of Edgar Ramirez...

*****

Peter Weller joins 'Star Trek' sequel

So he's going to play a CEO? Sounds suspiciously like the character he played on ENT.
