The Secret of the Amethyst

Postby CoffeeCat » Mon Jun 11, 2007 1:15 am

I finally finished part II. It turned out to be almost three times as long as part I, so I divided into two parts making it a total of three.

So...

The Secret of the Amethyst

Author: Alma Ames a.k.a. “CoffeeCat”
Contact: coffeecat77@gmail.com
Archive: With permission only.
Rating: PG-13 (mild swearing, sex implied)
Series: Voyager, TNG, Enterprise
Challenge: Fix The Finale (Enterprise: *the_abomination*)
Codes: Paris/Torres, Riker/Troi, (mild hints of Trip/T’Pol so far)

Summary: Tom and B’Elanna learn just how much in demand a badly written holoprogram can be.

Notes: Thanks to JadziaKathryn for making me respect B'Elanna's character and Blackn’blue making me respect Tom Paris and both for beta reading.

Interesting ... methinks I see a predestination paradox building here. Is Miral the child that the NX-01 crew rescue?

^ that would be a little obvious, wouldn't it? When I wrote it, I was going for the "foreshadow" effect, not predestination paradox. But I did think of it after I wrote it.

But I haven't decided who's child it is yet.
I might still turn out to be Shran's after all...
...Or it could actually be Trip and T'Pol's.

I'm definately a "write as I go" kinda gal.

It's a curse. I figured out that Bruce Willis' character was dead about a quarter of the way through The Sixth Sense. Now, I can't watch or read anything without trying to figure out what's going on. Trust me: that sucks.

It only seemed logical since temporal mechanics were mentioned, as well as the fact that the child was never officially identified. Could also make for an interesting crossover, I think, if Paris & Torres are back in 2161. If done right, that is. (He says, recalling CoffeeCat's long and appropriate rant about crossovers in Trek and how to make them work.)

Heh. You saw my outline stuff, right? I shudder in horror at the idea of making it up as you go.

No worries. I do loosely outline each part as I approach it so I'm not *that* unstructured. I simply feel that forcing characters into a rigid plot line can take away from what the characters really want to do.

In other words, if, as I'm developing the character of the kidnappers, it turns out that it's characteristic of them to somehow bring Miral back in time to the 22nd century and if I find that it's characteristic of Shran to make a big stink about rescuing her or some nonsense like that, then sure, why the heck not?

^ I confess, while writing it, all the FU's I made towards *the_abomination* were not coincidental.

Interesting, pleasant, with humour. Smile
Please you proceed.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

I'm not that familiar with Voyager so when I started reading I almost stopped because the characters felt so distant to me, but fortunately I didn't because I started to like this story and now I can't wait to read more.
