I think using that reasoning, Tuvok would be the obvious choice. That's actually why I picked Worf. But I also figure that Picard must have some tactical officer by now (the movies didn't really show him/her, did they?) You'd think that whoever it is must have served with Riker and Troi during Worf's time on DS9 and developed some kind of empathy with them. Or whoever it is was completely incompetent which is why Worf used to always end up doing his job during the movies.

Actually. Tuvok is starting to look really good for this role.

I would think Tuvok would be a good choice. You can always disguise him anyway - - hey, he could even have Klingon makeup if you really wanted!

OK - I've got it! this is going to get rather interesting.
SPOILER!!!:
In the last scene I wrote, the transport's first stop is Vulcan, so that will be where Tuvok gets on. Picard will send one trusted person to deliver the real holonovel to him and assist him in his work. Through the process of elimination, I decided it's going to be Dr. Crusher because 1) she's done covert crap before (Chain of Command), 2) She isn't a freak like Geordi and Data's latest incarnation, 3) Riker trusts her, 4) she was around during the whole Pegasus incident, and 5) she's Doctor - her skills would be needed if the baby turns up injured.

And yah, I could dress up Tuvok any way I see fit (evil!laugh(tm)) - ok, it won't be a tutu so don't worry...

I was going to make a comment about how illogical it would be to have that person act in a covert manner based entirely upon that person's job ...

... but then I forgot that this is Trek we're talking about.

Carry on.

*shrugs* - I don't think I have much of a choice. Anyway, I'm actually reading up on her @ memory-alpha and I keep on finding interesting nuggets of information that make me think Picard would trust her on such a mission, possibly more than some security hack that has to step down whenever Worf is on board.

You're right, though. Based on her just her job it would be very illogical. But we're talking about a fiction universe where all extra characters are automatically stupid & incompetent. It kind of reminds me of The Caretaker where no one but the jailbird knew enough to take the frakking helm ;-D

And, in too many instances, the Main Characters are turned into those sort of morons in order to exalt the Hero!Captain.

And the all bad guys are straight out of the idiot-shaped cookie cutter.

Maybe in this story I'll come up with an actual reason for all the incompetence.
