No! Not bearded Spock! mmm... bearded Spock. I often wondered about transporters as medical devices. Not ENT era but TNG era. It just seems... logical. That's why I'm writing it into a fic. ;)

From TOS, you also have to wonder about the possibilities of the transporter for psychotherapy! Split someone into their component id and superego, give them a little critical distance on those aspects of themselves, and then literally put 'em back together. Ta da!

Got a hang-up about women? Try on a woman's body for awhile ... walk in HER shoes... or vice versa for women who have a hang-up about men... except it didn't seem to do much for Kirk or whatsername that I noticed. Think of the possibilities for marriage counseling!

Hell, for multiple personality disorder, maybe it could become the treatment of choice. Split 'em up and don't put 'em all back... though probably they're all there for a reason so who knows what might happen then. Maybe the proper nervous breakdown that should have happened during the original trauma...

So if a person with multi personalities were to be split into individual personalities, would each split into their own multiple personalities? If that were the case, you could have an entire population in no time.

I think the closest ST got was Tuvix :upchuck: and Tom Riker (there we go, cloning made easy)

What I always wondered. when someone got transported from the surface suppose a bughad crawled up the persons leg. would the Bug get mixed up with the Person. Like in the movie "the fly?"

I'd expect the bug to get transported up with him.

Which could be a big problem, actually. You'd really need bio-filters of some kind, for the invisible bugs too.

^ I thought they had some kind of bio-filter, to screen out planetside bugs and things like that.

I think they did by TOS, but judging from the way they were always worried about spreading contagion from the transporter in ENT, they hadn't developed one yet at that point. Plus Novakovich got beamed up with sticks lodged in his skin, which must have freaked him out even more than he was already freaked out.
