Surely the movie, especially if there is at least one to follow, establishes it's own alternate canon and a fertile new field for fiction.

The Trousers of Time have a third leg. Main canon, Mirror Universe and this one.

Oh, it's already generating a bunch of fic at fanfiction.net. I have to confess I'm not THAT interested in it, though. At least not yet. I require a relationship I'm desperately interested in.

Isn't the timeline infinite, and so are AUs right? What is the big deal? My sister says all is lost, IT'S NOT!!! So who cares? The fact is if it's fun I'll like it. Besides I am a HUGE Eric Bana fan even if he IS the baddie. I mean you only have to watch "Troy" once to fall in love with him, and he was up against Brad Pitt! And Brad is like the ULTIMATE. So I'll watch just for him.

Yeah, TOS was never a very "Shipper" friendly series.

Unless you're into K/S but we've already been through all that.

I never understood the K/U people either. My favorite fanfics of that pre-Internet era were Alternate Universe 4, which centered on Kirk but were surprisingly good anyway, and the Sahaj stories in IDIC, which were all about some son of Spock's that shows up and has to be raised by his grandparents. The first anthology Pocket did had the first AU4 story in it, but Myrna Culbreath and the other editor practically ruined it with their heavy stylistic changes.

The first time I had a hint of interest in writing any of my own 'ships on that show was after Saavik taught little Spock the facts of life. I thought Spock would be very nicely rattled if she turned up pregnant.

And so did whoever wrote an earlier draft of TVH, but alas that got cut out. Or maybe that's for the best.

Yeah but who needed it at the time? Ooops, sorry regressed to a six year old for a minute, that's how old I was when I watched reruns with my grammy. I wanted Saavik with David.

Well, Saavik might have been up for it, but David just didn't strike me as actually leaning in that direction...

Oh so THAT'S why he leans into her neck and whispers in her ear about *fun*!!! And I'm still not sure how she cured Spock of Pon Farr by a simple ozh'esta... I mean they didn't find a cave or anything. Nope I wanted David and Saavik. You should have seen me as a four year old, "NO! MOMMY... He's not dead he can't be, he's supposed to marry the pretty Vulcan lady!" I was a very adament four year old.

The Novelization of Star Trek III, while by no means strictly canon, very clearly gave Saavik and David a quick romance. There's a scene where the Genesis planet's odd plant life makes them weak in the knees so to speak.

Different timelines, uh? :D
I always found this one beyond comparison:  http://triptpolers.houseoftucker.com/fiction/author_favors_when_the_enterprises_collide.shtml
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Neither did Rock Hudson, but it didn't stop him from being an actor. I just think they were cute. Well not Kirstie Alley too prom queen.

I didn't know that until later, but it didn't surprise me at all. This sounds stupid, but I just couldn't take David seriously as a straight guy after he appeared on the Bridge with that sweater tied over his shoulders like a male model. I'm not arguing that the movie didn't want me to take David seriously as a match for Saavik in TSFS. I just didn't buy it.

Also, it was kind of ironic that this was Kirk's kid, because it just seemed like he never stopped whining.

Can you blame the guy? His mother was a piece of work. <shudder> As for the sweater thing, I know some VERY straight men who do that. Not saying the actor was straight but then again neither is Sulu, the old one anyway. Really does it matter. Maybe I'm biased but when a man starts whispering into a Vulcan woman's ears......

Oh, I'm not saying it matters in the slightest, it just was a real turn-off for me. I still have the urge to giggle every time I see it. Pretty straight guys who do it make me giggle, too. Actually, generally speaking it probably makes me giggle even in women. It's just so ... preppy.

My brothers and I used to make each other (and my mother) giggle by playing Sears Roebuck Catalog and posing like models. Apparently we're just easily amused.
