Re: Trekkies "bash" new Trek film
Okay, it's stereotypical and all that, but still funny. I liked the Paramount statement that in a few years it'll seem just as dated and cornball as the rest of the films.
But I'm more than cool with Chris Pine instead of Shatner. I mean, look at those eyes!

That's a hoot! So was the Obama joke that followed...
I'm getting kind of excited about this movie. I dunno, I might have to try to rope the family into going this weekend. If not, maybe Bether will go with me!!!!

Hilarious! Some of it hit close to home, but if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

Oh dear, I meant the movie! But the Onion review is just as charming. I'm in a good mood.
I'll put my review in spoiler code:
I'll put my review in spoiler code:
SPOILER!!!:
Just like the Onion fans said, it's not profound. No philosophy debated, but it's SO charming. Sort of like the movie with the whales. And exciting, and touching. Many times I laughed or gasped out loud and seeing the ship and a several other moments brought a tear to my eye. Particularly oh . . . I can't give it away even in spoiler. There are some delightful surprises. My husband wanted to know what what the most disappointing aspect of the movie. Well, the horrible science with regard to a black hole. *heavy sigh* Ah well . . . that's Star Trek. And if that's the worst you can say.
The Romulans didn't look very Romulan to me. Hmmm . . . . And a previously unknown relationship between two crew members would probably send some fans through the roof, but not me. That relationship was wonderfully done. Its still Star Trek but it feels Roddenberry-ish in that the crew is young and beautify and sexy and their are nonstop fist fights. Hey, he was about successful TV. It is very youthful and yes, there was eye candy. In a good way. I wonder how a movie with that much death and destruction can leave me so cheerful? But it did.

I'm donating my body to science fiction.

Well, I have to go see it. Just don't know when, but hopefully before it is out on DVD, LOL.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Here's Hitler bashing the new Trek film ... with an appropriate reference to "that dude from Quantum Leap."

Right, let's compare those that don't like this movie to Hitler, shall we?
Ever heard of Reductio ad Hitlerum or Goodwin's law?

Re: Trekkies "bash" new Trek film
I'm not comparing you to Hitler, I just think it's funny. I particularly enjoyed the little allusion to Archer and the thing about all the Star Wars fans leaving the room.
I think your critical reservations about the movie are reasonable, even though I don't share them. Well, actually I do share a few of them, and have some of my own, but they didn't interfere with my enjoyment of it.
Truth was I saw ST:TMP three times, even though I thought it sucked, because it was the first new Trek in years. However, I think this movie is A LOT better than that one, or ST5 or any of the TNG movies except First Contact.

Re: Trekkies "bash" new Trek film
Mh... excuse me. I have a little allergy towards Hitler.
You know.
I'm European, and Italian, in addition.
I can't forget Hitler and Mussolini.
It's difficult for me to laugh for what you displayed to me.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.
But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

No doubt best to avoid it, then. I did label it.
