Next CSI will involve a Star Trek Convention

Postby justTripn » Wed Apr 15, 2009 9:20 pm

I've gotten the heads up from my coworkers that the next CSI episode involved a Star Trek Convention. YIKES. Remember the episode with the "Furries"? I wonder if they will capture the excitement and camaraderie of a Con, or try to make us look ridiculous.

Well, as much as I like CSI (okay, LOVE it), I suspect they're going for the cheap and easy angle of making us look like freaks. I'll be disappointe, but not surprised if that happens.

Well it's going to involve a murder. How much do you want to bet the weapon will be a Bat'leth?

What cable channel will it be on and what day will it be on? I don't watch TV much but I know that several channels carry CSI.

It's on today, but I have to pack for the Texas Star Party. I'm not sure I'll get to see it either. :( I may have to watch it on the network website when I get back. Which network? CBS? :dunno:

SPOILER!!!:
Okay, now we've got Trekkies - oh, sorry, I mean Questers - who get riled up enough over a reboot to kill. Ironic since the reboot movie is coming out soon...
"Cheap angle of making us look like freaks," anyone?

But I do like that Wendy is into it, because it's nice to see a female sci-fi fan who's pretty normal.

ETA:
SPOILER!!!:
They just had to make the crazy ones live with their mother, didn't they?

The fanatical nerds living with their mother aside, it was GREAT!

I loved the CSI worker, transposing his situation into an Astro Quest story.

In the CSI show EVERYONE was a little bit of a Astro Quest fan. Well the proportions were correct. 95% of people have a at least a superficial knowlege/affection for the show. 5% are a little fanatical. 5% are oblivious.

I thought it was pretty well done. Also the fans spanned all socioeconomic groups and included 2 CSI workers. Not too bad.

And I was so sure that guy was killed by a bat'leth.

Note that they were upstairs, and not in their parents' basement!!!

Yup. I knew it would be chock full of cheap shots to make us look crazy. Still, I liked the stuff between Wendy and Hodges.

It was actually a lot less derogatory than I thought it would be.
SPOILER!!!:
And the murderer wasn't even a scifi fan. :D I also loved how they managed to make all kinds of Star Trek references and even recognizably quote specific TOS episodes without ever mentioning Star Trek once. For a minute there I expected the Laurence Fishburne character to hold up the guy's stomach contents and say "They're green".

SPOILER!!!:
"He's dead, Jim." I was just pleased that the murderer wasn't a crazed fan irate over the loopy reboot.

Besides, if we're talking crazed fans, I'd just like to point out that B&B are not only still alive, they're still in the industry, and and so...

I loved how they kept imagining themselves into scenes! (Well, mostly Hodges.)

Well, I missed it. :( Being tired after work, then doing some gardening, then spending time with my elderly pet rabbit, and catering to my husbands sore knee problem...I forgot to try to watch it! :evilmonkey: Bad Star Trek fan. Bad. Bad. :vulcan:

But I have been enjoying all of your comments and that the CSI episode did not geek us too badly. :)

No worries. Watch it here And this is the totally legal version, BTW, with commercials. It's streaming, not downloading, and it's actually through CBS.
