Here's the first installment in my con report. Sorry I didn't do it yesterday, but Vegas is two hours behind Louisiana and I got up at 4 am to catch the plane on Thurs, so I was incapacitated by bedtime yesterday.

Hubby and I got in around noon yesterday and we spent a few hours hitting the Star Trek Experience. The Borg Experience was cute and very 4-D but not particuliarly scary, and the Klingon Encounter was a bit short on live Klingons, very exciting, and somewhat nauseating (thank goodness for Dramamine. I was pre-warned so I premedicated.) The timeline and museum were both very interesting, and the gift shop was quite impressive. Flying radio-controlled starship models are coming soon, apparently. We also had lunch at "Quark's Bar and Grill". The menu was amusing and the food was delicious. If anyone has the chance and finances they really should make the trip to see the Star Trek Experience before it shuts down (I think, unfortunately, on September 1st). That and the shops and hotels recreating virtually every major tourist spot in the world are worth the trip even if you don't gamble.

Today we went to "The Boys of Enterprise Luncheon", which was rather deceitfully billed as being "in Benihana". Turns out there were too many people to actually have it IN Benihana, and the menu was never intended to be Japanese. I never knew Benihana served tuna sandwiches and veggie wraps with chips. :? At 85 dollars a head, the food was good for what it was, and having Connor, Dominic, and Anthony rotating throughout the room, spending about 5 minutes at each table one at a time for a total celebrity contact time of about 15 minutes was the main purpose of the meal anyway. After lunch, Jolene was on stage, and they used Boushh's video to introduce her! Boushh was all smiles, but I'll let her tell you the story.

Jolene looked very good. She wasn't underfed looking like the boys seemed to look, and she was very genuine on stage. She introduced the trailer for Starship Troopers 3, and said she'd had a good time making it. She told stories of practical joking on the Enterprise set and once again expressed her dissatifaction with *the_abomination*. She described herself as an "SF geek with no social skills" as a child, and said she got into acting because when she was acting she could relate and interact with people "without actually having to talk to them". So, evidently she was shy and geeky as a child. Jeez. I wish I'd grown up so well.

I got Jolene to sign a t-shirt with the TriS logo on it, next to Connor's signature. I plan to wear it to the con tomorrow. :D

After Jolene and a couple of other people I wasn't interested in (I think their names were George and Nichelle ) the Enterprise Boys got up on stage. They're a riot together. Connor and Anthony are so nice, and Dominic's so funny that you really don't mind that he's a bit of a p**ck. I don't have a super-duper telephoto camera like Boushh does, though, so you may have to wait for her for good pics.

After leaving the con this evening, hubby and I went to see a stage production of a Cirque de Soleil show called "Ka". Unbelievable. Indescribable. It was like a fantasy circus with a plot. The dialogue was in Japanese (I'm pretty sure. That's what it sounded like anyway.) There were more bare male backsides in it than any production I've ever seen (most of the male dancers were wearing loincloths like sumo wrestlers, but they were in shape). All in all, the female acrobats wore more clothes than the males did. And there was a sparkly Tarzan. Honestly. But there were enough martial arts in it to keep the guys' attention, too... and INDOOR FIREWORKS. I'm NOT kidding!!

Needless to say, I'm having a great time. I'm gonna go through my pictures now and see if there's anything postable. I can't promise anything, though. I'm no photographer.

Okay. First we have pictures of Las Vegas. My husband says that now that we've been to Vegas and seen reproductions of nearly every European tourist spot, we no longer have to go to Europe. Here's what he means.

And here's a very proud Boushh with her prize certificate for her video, flanked by her companion and myself.

Here's my only photo of the Boys of Enterprise luncheon that's even marginally good, and Dominic's still got his arm in Anthony's face. :?

Sorry. I need to ask Boushh and her friend if they got any pics. Both of them had these huge honkin' cameras with foot-long telephoto lenses.

Yes. Did you?
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

WOW. Great "Boys of Enterprise" pic, particularly of Malcolm, I mean Dominick. Connor is back to wearing wild flowered prints. Cool. Glad to see HoT and Triaxian Silk members are prominent at these things. (Boush won a video award at Cherry Hill too.) She must have been thrilled that it was used to introduce Jolene. Did you post images in the convention thread? Vegas sounds intriguing . . .

I'm grinning vicariously through you guys too. I didn't want to bite the bullet and admit that we'd be doing this as a huge group in 2009 but we may just have to try. I don't know. I'd love it.

I'm insanely jealous that you got so much information from Jolene :D and that you got her to sign your shirt.

Btw, j/c, was there ANY mention at all of her 2 previous visits to Vegas that didn't pan out? Being that they were both Vegas I thought maybe she'd mention it.

Also, do you know the connection between jolene and the Cirque de Soleil? She did some modelling for the advertisements. I originally thought she was IN IT. I thought WHAT! But yeah. Modelling. Hot.

So, lemme get this straight. This amazingly gorgeous, hungry-for-life, "I do everything with reckless abandon", intelligent, funny sci-fi nerd was born in SoCal, 9 years too early for me to have gone to have met her? Damn.

Good move on going to the play, too. Get your money's worth in Vegas, that's the key!

You know the economy's hurtin when you can't even get a $3.99 buffet in Vegas anymore

HEY! BOUSHH! CONGRATS ON ANOTHER FREAKIN VIDEO! They should've called you up to see Jolene after the vid! Didn't you get to do that in Cherry Hill w/ Connor after they introduced him w/ your video?

D, did Connor recognize you at all from Dallas or Cleveland? I'm bettin he recognized the shirt. Did anyone tell Jolene about the shirts/us?

I didn't get any photos of Jolene. Sorry. They weren't allowing them in the autograph line and my general admission tickets put me in seats so far back that my pitiful little camera couldn't reach.

Jolene didn't seem to recognize the "Not Dead" shirt I was wearing at the autograph session, but at the "Boys of Enterprise" luncheon Anthony noticed my shirt and pointed it out to Connor, who promptly nodded and rolled his eyes. (This is all according to my husband. I missed the fun because my view was limited to the little screen on my camera when the boys first came into the room.)

As far as Jolene goes, she did say on stage that she felt "liberated" by the MU episodes and they were two of the most fun episodes for her to do. Because of that, when I went up to get her autograph I told her that since she'd been so kind as to decorate my t-shirt, I wanted to give her something to decorate hers. Then I gave her two of the extra MU patches that I had from when I did my costume a couple of years ago. She laughed and took them, and told me thanks, and said she might take me up on it, so if the next time you see her at a con she's wearing something with an MU patch on it, the patch was a gift from me. 8) Oh, and the con organizers were honoring autograph tickets from the time when Jolene got sick and had to go to the hospital. Weren't you there, Elessar? They called those tickets first. A questioner during the Q&A said he'd gotten one of the few photos with her before she had to leave the event that time, and told her that in the photo she's beautiful but looks "very Vulcan"...as in serious and rather green. She laughed and then jokingly told him to destroy the photo. His response was "not on your life!"

The day's not over yet. We still have the costume contest (no, I'm not entering) and the Philharmonic to go to. Today we saw Coto and Berman, who showed a trailor for 24 and admitted they'd "made some mistakes" :? , and Walter Koenig before we cut loose again to get lunch. We went back to the Venetian to see the street performers and had a marvelous lunch. Although the line for the gondolas was too long, we did make it to the Mirage to see "Siegfreid and Roy's Secret Garden", a sort of mini-zoo and dolphin habitat right in the middle of the hotel complex and right on the Vegas strip. The monorail's been indispensible. We got a three day pass, and you can get virtually anywhere on the strip by walking a block or so from the closest monorail station. I had no idea all this was here. And neither of us has spent a cent gambling despite the fact that in order to go anywhere you literally HAVE to walk through a casino. :D

Yeah, I have no idea how anyone under 21 makes it through the Vegas convention. I got carded just standing next to (Y2)Kelly while she played a slot for like 5 seconds. I was 21 at the time, though. Btw, that hotel's lobby is where I met the guy who plays Chief Master Sergeant Walter Harriman on SG1. Kelly and I haranged him as I stumbled drunkenly back to the hotel from a club a few streets down .

Btw, yes, I was at the convention Jolene missed. BOTH of them. Remind her BOTH of them. LOL. She didn't make the 1st one at all (which I learned from the half-english-speaking Japanese couple and co-Presidents of the Japanese branch of the International Star Trek Fan Club, LOL, awesome people), and she left sick from the 2nd one when I was about 25 ft from the line.

Btw, Ronald Held was also at that convention and I think he got a photo with her before she left, but I doubt that guy was Ronald Held that spoke up. RH was pretty quiet and reserved.

For anyone who might remember, Ronald Held is a guy who was active (and may still be, IDK) at TrekBBS for a long time who is also a PhD holder in astrophysics who gave a talk at the 2005 or 2006 Vegas Con (one of the two I went to) on FTL and high-sub-light propulsion. Really, really, really smart (and nice) guy. I think he actually did at least one more those, and I was wondering if he might become a permanent fixture. That'd be sweeeeeeet.

Anyway. Yes the Benihana's food sucks. IMO. I didn't like it. My thing was actually IN the Benihana, but it was a less popular group of actors. Some DS9 folks. But still really cool.

Btw i'm insanely jealous u got to see a 24 trailer. Was it of Season 7 or of the upcoming TV movie, or did they say?

I suppose I could just youtube it like I do the Dharma Initiative videos from Comic Con...

You know what's ironic? In 2005, Boushh assembled this awesome book of artwork, letters, photos, and such that was supposed to go to Jolene and she gave it to me to take to the 2005 Con in August b/c I was going and Jolene was gonna be there. Today, I still have that book, I am ashamed to say for anyone who contributed and maybe thought by some miracle I got it to Jolene, but it is in PRISTINE condition, I promise, and I hold onto it someday hoping to be able to get it to her, relating the story of my trials and tribulations in my quest for her lovely company.... even if I leave that last part out.

But the irony is that Boushh made it to a f***ing convention with Jolene before I did, 3 years later!!!

Another BTW : If anyone wants a little trade secret for getting anywhere from 20 seconds to 2 minutes more direct face time with Connor at a convention here's what you do. He is frequently a part of these 1 or 2 or 3 man lunch/dinner/breakfast style get togethers where they go table-to-table. Thing about Connor is, he had to get a little sauced before he can deal with the roaming fingers of his fawning Trekkie women, methinks. So what you do is while you've had your seats in the dining hall and you're waiting for the stars to come in, it'll be hard to nail down the timing, but go up to the bar and get a drink at the cash bar, because Connor will make for it like a dog to a lamb chop the moment he enters the room. I talked to him for about 60 seconds while I got drinks for myself and JT.

If you wanna guarantee you'll be there at the right time, just get drinks for everybody

Okay, now I'm really worried about CT. Bad enough living the bizarre life of a second-tier Trek celebrity, he has to get sauced before a BREAKFAST table with fawning fans? I mean, yeah, it must be creepy putting up with all our nerdy adoration, but still ... he could become an alcoholic! Become even more unemployable! Lose his looks early! The horror!

Never fear. I saw Connor at lunch Friday, Friday afternoon on stage, and Saturday morning at breakfast, and all three times he seemed a bit tired but perfectly sober. Dominic, on the other hand, looked tired and red-eyed at lunch and might have been a little tipsy on stage. Or maybe he was just being Dominic. As far as Elessar goes, well, I've only met him the one weekend, but he does seem to be very tolerant of rather large doses of liquor. That might seem to be a good thing, but it's actually a little worrisome, since tolerance requires a certain amount of regular intake.

See, Elessar? We worry about you. Kinda scary, huh? Like having an unknown number of online moms.

Yeah, well, Connor's tolerance may be an issue too, but we'll hope he just needs a little fortification now and then to face the fans.

And yes, Elessar -- the moms are on to you! Be kind to your liver, you only have one.

LOLOLOL, my mild dislexia or maybe it's just inattention during reading Alelou's post that made me do a double take on the phrase "he just needs a little fortification". Poor Connor. What he REALLY needs are some good acting jobs. Acting is a demanding and mostly unrewarding professions isn't it?

Distracted, thanks for posting that report and the pictures. :) :) It was great meeting you!!

Here is a mini-report I posted at one of the other boards. Full report to come...

I'm back and pretty wiped out. Thanks for the congrats. Congrats to HR for her win too! I wish I was in the room when they played Blue Blue Sky!! Darn it! I was sooo betting they were going to play it in front of Scott. I knew it was going to get air time at some point or another because there was no doubt in my mind it was going to be a winner.

All of the ENT guests were great. I was able to attend the Boys Lunch thanks to Jinx and got to sit at a table with all three of them rotating into the seat that we left vacant on the chance that they'd use it. Poor CT told us about his horrible flight experience. I think I stared at him with my mouth hanging open for the duration of the story. He was telling it in my direction for quite a while and I was just awed by the suckitude of it. I mean, fly to Vegas... circle around... fly back to LAX... land... take off again... and land in Vegas. OY.

The boys looked great, I thought. DK is a pisser. He cracked me up. Anthony is a sweetheart, too.

Jolene looked amazing. 10x better than in 2005. She looked beautiful. Her talk was great too. I thought she looked much more comfortable on stage than when I saw her last.

Scott was also awesome. He was funny and great to watch on stage. He ran from side to side to answer questions. He sang a bit whenever someone asked him too. He looked fit and pretty darned hot.

I'll probably make up a long formal report, but that's all from me now. I don't know if I'll have any good pictures since I was far away. I may have a nice zoom, but a nice zoom does squat when there isn't enough light. I have a feeling Jinx is going to take the prize for best photos. I saw some of hers in-camera and they look great.

It was so awesome meeting people from this board and others. There were so many of us there that you'd constantly be running into someone you knew. I wish I had more time there to hang out with everyone and I wish I had a chance to have some time with everyone all together. It's tough though when convention stuff is going on and people are doing different things.
