Okay, I'm gonna try to do this mostly in order, so bear with me, it's going to take some time. I have almost 900 photographs to go through.

I'm also going to try to do this in order, relatively speaking, so I have the best chance of remembering stories, etc.

So the action began for me on Wednesday the 4th, when I already started making friends at Detroit Metro Airport. (Fun fact: Detroit Metro Airport is technically in ROMULUS, MI.) I spotted a lady with a Trek book in her hands, went up to her and asked if she was going to the con. Natch she was, traveling with her son, and that's how I met Maureen ("Mo") and Trevor. We exchanged phone numbers and agreed to meet for breakfast one of the mornings.

I got to Las Vegas and met my roommate, JiNX-01 of TrekBBS. She's very sweet! we caught a cab to the hotel, got our room, then went down to the convention center for the pre-registration. We didn't end up getting dinner until 10pm local time--though my body was telling me it was 1am just like back home!

The next day, I saw my first guest, Walter Koenig:









Tomorrow I'll try to scan the pic he autographed for me. There's a story to go with that, but I'm too tired to tell it right now!

WALTER! S'funny. He just looks like one of the old-timers down at the feed store. But he's Chekov!!!

Okay, a little experiment here, because it's my first time scanning a picture all by myself, so if it's huge or something, sorry, I'm learning as I go:



When I got Walter's autograph later that day, he was very nice. I set the picture in front of him and he grinned. "Can I sign in the border?" he asked me. Big dopey grin from me. I mean, was he kidding me? He's Walter Freaking Koenig! He can sign wherever he wants! "Sure," I said. "You can sign wherever you want." He said, "I didn't know if you were going to have it framed or anything." "I'll frame it to accommodate whatever you do," I told him, "just do your thing!" He seemed amused by that.

One more thing before I go on:

If you guys want to save any of these pictures to your hard drives or whatever for your own personal enjoyment, that's cool by me, I don't mind sharing. However, please don't share them at another site without asking first, or without crediting me for the photo. It may not seem like such a big deal to some, but a lot of time, effort, and money went into making it possible for me to be in a position to share them with you, so I just ask those two small things. Thank you.

I didn't get George's autograp (it wasn't included with the gold ticket and I didn't have a lot of extra money), but he talked a lot about his activities to get gay marriage legalized and a PSA he did that's on YouTube. He's a very cool guy and I hope to have the opportunity to meet him at a future con.

And I drove past his brother the orthopedist's office in Philly/Jenkintown this weekend.

My friend said she decided, upon reflection, that she shouldn't ask for him to set her son's broken ankle (out of the 15 or so other doctors in the practice) just because he's Sulu's brother.
