I'm enjoying all the new stories this year, but the title of Cap'n Frances' new creation is especially inspired. Well done!

I agree! I'm very happy with the content we're getting :)

Today I have Chapter 8 of Letters Home by Linda!

I decided to move it into the main area because I think it's very Trip and T'Pol oriented, especially this chapter :D

Got one hell of a deluge for everyone today. I'm impressed! Here we go..

Fortune's Wheel, a new one from Eirann believe it or not! In her MU saga. I hope I've coded it for genre accurately enough.

Chapter 18 of the Briar Patch by Dinah!

A new story by GinaMR, Dei Gratia (and a few more from GinaMR coming in the next few days)

this was a real favorite, a new chapter to White Christmas by GinaMR

and finally, Jupiter Aligns for Mars, Chapter 8 by Weeble

Some Updates

I want to take this opportunity where everyone that's still active is probably reading to touch base with everyone. If anyone has submitted something that hasn't yet seen the light of day, please send me a message. As many of you know, been having some issues with the spam filter on the email account. From this point onward, I've asked all the authors who are still active to submit their submissions to my personal email. If you don't have it, just ask for it on your next submission. This seems like the simplest solution to me to a growing problem with the email filter. Too many submissions are being lost or misplaced for weeks at a time. A few other notes: I know that some submissions are coming up with excessive amounts of spacing. This doesn't happen to everyone and I'm sorry to say, it's simply far too time consuming to manually pull it all out. It's coming across this way directly out of your word documents, but it isn't happening to everyone. If it's a serious issue for you, I suggest maybe the authors powwow with Weeble and discuss MS Word settings, because Jupiter Aligns for Mars never comes across with this spacing issue. Also, I'm getting some submissions with Tracking Changes enabled and changes not accepted. It doesn't show up in MS Word but once I paste it into our tool it has all this funny meta code. It would just simplify this process if you can remember to "Accept All Changes" after working with your Beta. Thank you.

On another note, even when submissions are not lost, I am not making my 7-day minimum target and I very solemnly apologize for this. Some of you are dealing with 2- and 3- week delays and you've been eminently graceful about it. I deeply appreciate your patience. I've been managing the inbox solo and life has been pretty busy with Ellie moving over. You can thank Distracted for anything getting posted at all, as she is diligent and most maternally keeping me on point! :poke: I will do my best to get things moving more quickly again. This month has seen a real turnaround in traffic, and I can't tell you how happy I am to see it!

Everything is going good over here, and I am happy to keep the doors open as long as you keep writing. I may even get off my ham one of these days to finish my own tapestry of literary loose ends! I want to thank mjimeyg for his infinite patience and support these last few years. Every time one of you writes me with a bug or an issue, I send it to him and he jumps right on it. You can't ask for that kind of customer services even from PAID organizations, much less a volunteer! We wouldn't be up and running without him :hatsoff: so, hat's off to him, he's a gentleman and a scholar! :trip: :tpol:

Don't put the pens down!

The excess spacing can be avoided by setting your documents to automatically space between paragraphs instead of hitting enter twice between paragraphs. In Microsoft Word you can tell if your document will space too widely by going to the home tab and clicking the paragraph code reveal, which looks like a backwards P with a double spine. Your paragraph codes will then show. For your document to space properly you should have only one paragraph symbol between paragraphs. If you have two, click on the paragraph page and set a space after your paragraphs. Make sure the "don't add space between paragraphs of the same type" box is not checked. Then you'll have to go back and delete every single extra paragraph symbol. This is what Elessar doesn't have time to do, and after you have to do it once, you'll hopefully remember to set your paragraph spacing properly before you start. It's much easier that way. : )

Even better, go to search and replace and put in two paragraph symbols and replace them with one. Voila, done.

I didn't think you could put symbols in to search and replace. Where would you find the symbol to type in?

You can actually cut and paste it, I believe. I found the shortcut in Mark Coker's book about formatting your ms. for Smashwords. It's free if you want to download it. There are other shortcuts that are handy there, too.

Cool. Thanks for sharing. That trick would have saved me hours back when I was still posting stories.

Yeah, me too.

I'll have to read that book and use it all over again on my current manuscript.
