New chapter is up! https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8522099/11/World-of-Ice

A chapter that's really a very precious thing.

I can't complain about one chapter a year when they are as good as "World of Ice", but faster would be great. I read the latest chapter on FanFiction and enjoyed it, but I haven't reviewed yet. I want to re-read all the previous chapters so I can catch all the nuances. I haven't found time yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I'm also hoping the posting problem here can be resolved and it will also join the archive here.

Thanks, Cap'n Frances! I had a very busy year with my work and home situation, so I hope to speed up things.

I watched some videos from an online writing conference yesterday. One was a demo/tutorial of Scrivener. It's a software program for writing complex documents like novels. It includes word processing, outlining, and a browser. I thought the cork board view looked especially helpful. (Every time I try to do a story board with real index cards, my cat knocks them off the table.)

It's not very expensive and has a 30 day free trial. I downloaded it yesterday and am working my way through the tutorial. The problem is that it has so many feature and so much flexibility that it has a steep learning curve. Has anyone else tried it?

I haven't tried it. I mainly use libre office or ms word when I write. I've also started saving my docs on dropbox so I'm always working on the most recent version no matter which computer I'm on. (I can also work on word docs from my chromebook; I just click on the .docx file in dropbox and it opens in word's free online version. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the disk-based version, but it has what I need, and it's free.)

If anyone is interested, I have started a new story called: The naked truth and other necessities of life.

I would love to post this story also on TRIS, when that's possible again.

I am dragging this old thread out of the mot balls...

Are there still TnT writers around and if so, are you writing any stories or do you need some encouragement to get started?

I would encourage anyone with unfinished works to pick them up again! I wrote a few VOY P/T stories, {sigh} nearly 20 years ago, and took a long break. I posted under another name and have slowly been reformatting them and posting again. They existed only on ASC and ASCEM, so they were very hard to find. I recently came across one story on a 3 inch disk that's ~80% done, and I've gone back to work on it. Also, in the last year I've written a few TnT stories which are up at Archive of Our Own. So, I don't think it's ever too late to finish off a story or start a new one! I've also been so impressed with the new (to me) and very talented writers in the Star Trek fandom.

I have quite a few ideas in progress but unfortunately almost no time at all to spend on any of them.

I know one of them was lurking and pm-ed me last week. IDK if he's doing anything tho.

I've got half an outline of a post Terra-Prime story that completely ignores the Riker buffet. As it should.

I'm still working on 'Convicted' in my spare time. It's slow going, about a chapter a year. I'm determined to finish though. I need to know who wins the Romulan war...

A number of new authors are posting on An Archive of Our Own that did not post here including Amberlioness. I have also seen some authors who left this site for reasons unknown to me, like Erieann.

I keep an eye on new works under Star Trek: Enterprise but don't recall seeing that name. The vast majority of Ent stories there seem to be slash.

Dinah:

I really love your Briar Patch series. Is another chapter likely to ever be published? I haven't found anything past what is posted here.

I moved this over from another thread since this deals with writing. I hope that's OK.

I have started to write again, but it is VERY slow going. When I read over what I've written, it sounds lousy -- thin and rather lifeless. :banghead: I guess I just have to keep plugging along. I have eight pages written on the next chapter. I'll try to get something posted before we have too many more changes of season.

I want to thank everyone who has read the Briar Parch. I sincerely apologize for the delay.
