Not to toot my own horn or anything (even though I most shamelessly am), may I also be so bold as to offer this bit of silliness?

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Thou shalt be forgiven for that thou tooteth thy own horn

Why, thank you, kind sir. It is always so gratifying to be forgiven (and usually much more fun than asking permission first. )

Q'apla folks, :klingon:

A new year has arrived, meaning a new month calls for a new classic 8)
The focus of this month is Zane Gray and his/her fantastic Differential Series. It goes AU somewhere in season two and thus avoids the Xindi Trellium Debacle (TM) and the useless highschool angst of season 4 - a truly brilliant piece of fanfiction.

1. One Step Back, Two Steps Forward
2. Sympathies and Symmetries
3. Time Enough
4. Differential
5. The Early Hours

Enjoy :hatsoff:

They are among the most beautiful pieces that it's possible to read. For me personally, they are the real, the actual, the veritable TV series. In them there is everything, absolutely everything, that you could want.
A pity, really a pity, that Zane Gray has not completed the splendid piece whose beginning we could see here.

What a great series that is. The tenderness and affection growing between them is shown beautifully, while staying true to both characters. And here, you can hear a pin drop:

"We are that which was Surak."

And to cap it all, the best ending scene that I could ever imagine:

SPOILER!!!:
T'Pol gave him a puzzled look… until Trip finally just laughed and pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her tenderly. They lay quietly together, delighting in the strength of their bond. Their minds and thoughts mingled gently… easily. And short time later, the Human and the Vulcan eased into a deep, peaceful sleep.

She gave him serenity… he gave her his dreams.

Together… they loved.

And the Enterprise journeyed on…

Yes, a wonderful final. Poetic. Memorable.
But the whole series is unforgettable.
It is unique.
You know what? I'm rereading it.
It is like stepping back in a quiet yet turbulent torrent of sweet pleasure.

You know, it's a real shame that there's no way for authors to be told when people have commented on their stories.

I'm sure I'm not the only writer who checks recent stories obsessively for new comments, But I'm sure that most authors won't looking for new comments on stories posted years ago. As a reader, I'm discouraged from posting comments on these much-loved classics, because I don't think they will ever reach the author.

If only we had a way for those authors who are forum members to be notified of new comments, I feel sure that authors would be encouraged to know that their old stories are still being read and cherished by their fans. And, who knows, maybe they might feel motivated to return to write another story?
