OCTOBER 2010 WORD PROMPT

Hi there 
Humbly taking over from Aquarius. We almost missed the month of October, so here is the challenge, even if the November challenge is coming in 3 days.
Most people know the game. We give a word and you write what ever pops up in your head in connection with that particular word - poem, limerick, ironic musing, short story or a long one that ends up on the front page - it's up to you
The word itself does not have to appear in your writing as long as there is a logical connection to the given word.
In the spirit of Halloween, which I do know almost nothing about, the belatedly given word for october is...
