How do I know Trip Had a Graduate Degree?

I'd like to stick this in front of the guy who wrote the "didn't even have a degree, learned what he knew about engineering working on boat motors" line and watch his eyeballs melt and his brain dribble through them

This isn't even comparably difficult, this is basic fluid dynamics -- there's like 6 years ahead of this before you're ready to work on something like the shuttle, not to speak of something like a warp reactor. Then you're needing more math and more physics!

Well, we know *the_abomination* is all wrong on quite a few scores - and I've always thought that didn't mean the "self taught" thing didn't preclude him having a degree. More evidence of this is always welcome, of course.

I'm in the camp that he joined Starfleet young, with a self taught set of skills, and they sent him to Cal Tech or MIT to hone those skills.

it's the thermodynamics review in my propulsion book. It's necessary to understand how heat transfer (between the walls, flow, shockwaves, etc) affect a fluid flow, usually in a jet engine or a rocket nozzle. There's some triple integrals in there, that's the math, integral calc.

Ellesar, I have always thought that Trip would need higher Math, Newtonian physics, Relativety, Quantum Mechanis and quantum physics and Warp theory and warp drive technology at the very least. I think he would have to be highly educated. Not just one college but a few. He may have even had a PHD in one of those. He is a genius but even a genius needs to train his/her intelligence.

But then gain, I could be completely off base on this.

Well... The boat engines DEFINITELY! Self-Taught... Until Starfleet got him out of high school. Then they made the college stuff go to him. While they gave him the rest. It's the only way he could get his degrees and never "go to college."

That's what is known as a loophole.
