Unless I missed it, there's no central thread for links to research goodies for Star Trek stories. And if there is one, well here's another one durn it!

Anyhow. My first contribution. Memory Alpha Wiki pages. Seem pretty good and good with dates and things, which I like. Easy to read. (Too easy....I get wikied in and clicking links and it's like "surfing the net" all over again from 1995. Information gluttony.)

Heh. But it's the thesaurus side which, IMO, is as important as the dictionary.

Actually, you're right. It's so important, I put the search bookmarklets in my browser. The Thesaurus is actually a very valuable tool for when you find you keep repeating the same adjectives and verbs over and over again.

Do any of you writers ever look out for stuff like that?

IMHO, you should go through all your scenes and look for repetitive words and see if you can replace them by making use of the thesaurus. It gives your reader a little variety, it makes your prose more poetic, and it also helps expand your vocabulary.

The only time I don't like that is when someone uses riduculously long and obscure words and you can just tell they used the thesaurus. That hasn't happened here, but it does in our local newspaper (which managed to spell 'penguin' p-e-n-q-u-i-n in a headline).

I like this Latin Dictionary for finding titles and other random inspiration.
