Official Forum Rules (Updated 2010)

Postby Elessar » Tue Aug 31, 2010 3:44 am

ABSOLUTELY NO FLAMING OF OTHER MEMBERS

-You are free to argue an issue (respectfully), challenge a point of view, call another member's statement into question, but personal attacks are off-limits. Challenge statements, ideas, and behaviors, NOT people. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Also, using inflammatory, racially or ethnically vulgar language designed specifically to hurt or demean other posters is not allowed. And remember: sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it.

NO TROLLING

-Inflammatory remarks are not allowed. Arguments are conducive to a creative fan environment; debate ad nauseum can breed anger and frustration. Statements of hate of a character/episode/movie/whatever also count as trolling. As this is a fansite, wholesale, blanket hate of Star Trek, Star Trek: Enterprise, its characters, actors or creators is considered trolling. Flooding is an abusive and distracting form of frequent posting. We encourage members to be active but try to group your comments together, avoid overuse of quotes and respect others' contributions to discussion.

NO FLAMING OF REAL PEOPLE ASSOCIATED WITH STAR TREK

-The actors, authors, and behind-the-scenes people are to be treated with respect and deference - as are board members, administrators and fanfic writers. Confine your negative comments to actions/behaviors/statements, not the person themselves. Celebrities are people with feelings, too.

NO POSTING ABOUT "HOT-BUTTON" ISSUES UNLESS IT RELATES TO STAR TREK

-This would be stuff like religion, politics, and morality, UNLESS it relates to some Star Trek story or scenario. Those issues raised by fanfics may be discussed (carefully) in ways that abide Rules 1-3. Administrators reserve the greatest discretion in shutting down potentially heated discussions of they generate division or argument.

A WORD ABOUT “FREE SPEECH”

-The U.S. Constitution guarantees us the right to free speech, but there are limitations: You can't yell “Fire!” in a movie theater; You can't talk about bombs as you board an airplane. This is a privately owned board, managed by volunteers. Respect your hosts.

SIGNATURE LINES

-Do not use art signatures any larger than 100 pixels tall by 500 pixels long. If you want to post links to the last couple of stories you've written in your signature, go for it, but no more than three. Administrators will moderate on a case-by-case basis, rule of thumb is to keep it simple.

PHOTOS AND ARTWORK

-Signature images may not contain frontal nudity (nipples or genitalia). Images posted in the forums that do not qualify as directly-Star Trek related such as screen captures, convention photos, artwork, still image photography of actors or characters, or otherwise related Star Trek or Sci-Fi/Fantasy pictures SHOULD be linked if there is any doubt about propriety. Use conservative judgment. Any images that are reported of questionable compliance to this rule, either in posts or signatures, will be looked at on a case-by-case basis. Please report any images violating said rule to Elessar.

CONSEQUENCES

-The first infraction may incur a verbal warning or an official forum warning at the administration's discretion. The second infraction, depending upon severity, may incur an official forum warning or further action from the forum administrators.

BANS

-Forum bans will be used with extreme discretion and not without counsel between Elessar and the offending poster. Permanent bans will be used only in the most extreme cases.
