Re: Movie/TV cliches
Well SGA is pretty simple. In the beginning the only characters who aren't royally screwed up are Carson Beckett And Elizabeth Weir. By the end everone is completely screwed up and Weir dies sometime in the middle. CT's Micheal is equal parts amazing and quite honestly one of the most horrifying characters I have ever come across. Your heart breaks for him, but he's worse that any Hitler or Stalin. He's utterly terrifying. Yet I still cried when he died. CT deserved an emmy. I will say this, John Sheppard well he almost almost stole me from Daniel. He is just... But after they killed Weir I kind of got out. I mean Robert Picardo and Amanda Tapping are glorious but Weir was the emotional glue.
You never saw Firefly! Oh what a pity.

I did watch the premiere episode the night it made its debut. Wasn't grabbed enough to come back for a second one, especially considering I was working a *lot* at the time and could only watch so much TV. Might've been different if I had nothing to do but sit on the couch.
As for SGA, I need a better reason to watch than a good-looking character. Otherwise I'd be all over SG1 just for RDA.

Sheppard is so not my type. Good looking yes but his looks weren't what did it for me. That man made honor bound rage very appealing. Too bad about Firefly it is really awesome. If you had been all over RDA you couldn't be nearly as obsessed as my grammy, nobody loves RDA more than my grammy.

Actually, Patty and Selma Bouvier love RDA more than anyone.

Mrs. Grammy would dispute that. Oh come on I think its hysterical a 76 year old lady can be so obsessed.

You know how Queen Victoria used to say "We are not amused" well that's how Grammy got when she heard about it. it was funny. Honestly I had a blast teasing her.

I bet most women here don't remember watching him as Dr. Jeff Webber on GH.

I'll bet my grammy does. She really adored McGyver the most though. She still can't choose between James T. Kirk and Spock though.... So she picked RDA.

I was just looking for a screenshot with Patty and Selma and RDA tied to a chair. . . .I can't find it dammit.
I knew he was on GH - but that was before I ever watched GH. I never even got to watch Rick Springfield on GH.

RDA was hot on GH. That's when I started watching. I think he's gotten better looking as he's gotten older.

Ditto. I've watched all of SG1 (until they kinda ruined it with bringing on John Crichton), most of SGA (although I'll admit that this second installment generally bored me to tears), and am surprised to find that I like SGU the best out of the three. And the saddest part is that I frankly don't much like any of the characters on it!
Re: Movie/TV cliches
Getting back to Firefly, Aquarius, I had the same experience as you. Fox made a huge, huge error not showing the pilot - which set up everything first - there were so many characters and the setting was so unusual - that I couldn't follow the more "action packed" second episode because I didn't know who these people were and where they lived. I caught up with it on DVD and it was a revelation.
Again, not all the episodes are great or even good, but there's a hell of a lot of potential there and it was a shame that the show never got its chance. And there's two or three utterly amazing episodes. I like the one where it flashes back while Reynolds and Wash are running out of air - and I love the episode where they go to a planet where Jayne (who is a shady character) has become an inadvertent folk hero.
