Aqarius, I should have been more specific. The first time I SAW Dr. Who was in 1965. Still same goes for the actor. I actually only viewed it once or twice and didn't care for it. I was not that intersted in Fantasy those days. The Thunderbirds were more interesting because they were puppets and the stories line was very good.

Now, if Dr. who had been a feamle in a micro skirt I may have tuned in very day.

OK here's a question who here remembers a sci-fi show set on earth in the "near future" that has nothing to do with space but has a lot of Trek things in it???? No takers... SeaQuest DSV!!!!!!!!! One of the most awesome shows ever. I love Netflix I truly do because I can re-live the glory days anytime I want.

I mean the show has a navy "Starfleet" with a scientifically minded philosopher warrior Captain, the saltwart handsome XO, the brilliant beautiful Dr. who hates anything to do with war and guns, the charming rebel, the beautiful brilliant if insular engineer, the boy genius, and A TALKING DOLPHIN! Hello who doesn't want a pet dolphin people? Especially one who talks? Now I will admit despite being a grown up I still have a freakish crush on Jonathan Brandis, however... since he's tragically no longer living I can't have my crush on him as a grown up.

Oh and at least in SeaQuest the Captain and the DR. got to make out! TNG didn't give me that. I got inspired six ways from sunday tonight. Life is good.

I can't believe that nobody here has heard of SeaQuest.

The one with Roy Scheider? I watched it, but it was only on for one season, wasn't it? I only have vague memories of it.

Joining that vast array of short-lived SF series I watched ... Starman, which I really liked ... that Roddenberry thing about the android which I can't remember the name of (Questor Tapes)? ... Logan's Run ... the middle Flash Gordon (not the last one) ... the first BSG ... does Quark count? There was something about a guy who could breathe underwater (Patrick Duffy) that I was into ... I can't remember the name of that either... I almost hate to watch first-run SF series; they're almost always doomed to failure.

4 actually 2 without Roy. I'll admit the last season wasn't wonderful except for the characters of Lonnie Henderson, Tony Piccolo, Dagwood, (both played by the DeLouis brothers) and James Brody. But it was more than slightly sad when Dr Kristen Westphalen left. Come to think of it... It was like all the good TNG and a little of the ok ENT underwater. I got to watch it all again. You can get it on Netflix.

Truthfully I almost want to give Trip a pet dolphin. I can't help it at all.

I must have stopped watching it at some point. I don't feel any need to go back and try that one again. Even at the time I remember thinking just how many adventures can one contemporary submarine crew have? I think space allows for a little more suspension of disbelief.

Too bad I think the ocean is much cooler than space in many ways. Then again I grew up in, around, and near water. Water was the first 19 years of my life not kidding.

I still get a kick out of the idea of having a pet dolphin, I mean first there was flipper, then Darwin, and Darwin could talk with the help of a computer. I think T'Pol would like dolphins, some scientist think that their brains are wired for ESP.

I grew up around the water, too, but I would hope it has fewer aliens and conflicts in it than the average space opera. Yeah, there are pirates and giant waves and oil slicks and floating garbage islands and fishing conflicts and whale-poaching and killer lion fish or whatever, but still.

Of course, if I had a true understanding of the distances in space I'd probably find the idea of Star Trek laughable too.

I have to confess I think of having a pet dolphin as sort of like having a pet human... not that I didn't love Flipper as a kid myself. But I didn't think of him as Sandy's pet, either.

Well that's just it... The show is kind of like... How do I put this... Humanity before the Eugenics wars in ST terms. Subjects dealing with resources, genetic manipulation, the enviornment, the world slowly begining to merge under single governments, the conflicts inherent with that, all of those things are what SeaQuest deals with. Basically its a lot like humanity was developing before Zephram Cochrane only with the sea as the new frontier.
