I'm blunt like that. You get the good with the bad. The flipside works as well: your initial comments could be perceived as rather stinging as well since they boiled down to "Disappointed. Thought this chapter was a waste of time." Hence, my reply may have been unnecessarily brusque. Thus, I apologize for any ruffled feathers or hurt feelings - but it ultimately goes to my personality. If somebody pushes (or I perceive that they are pushing), I tend to push back. Alas.
My main question is why you felt the need to rehash Archer's survior's guilt? Over the course of the story you've dealt with his emotions with incredible skill. But this chapter it seemed reduntant. His thoughts are repetative (which is normal in his condition) however I already knew he's a bit messed up from this. Perhaps I felt like I had already been there done that, I'm waiting for the big blow up.
PTSD isn't something that a person can simply get over, though, which is why it was touched on once more (and will be addressed again down the road.) It goes to his state of mind and shows how he is developing as a character. It's really no different, IMO, than when I have Trip reflect on his (he believes) unrequited feelings toward T'Pol over and over and over. And I generally try to avoid doing things that don't have a purpose down the road.
As for Travis and fishstick, I don't honestly believe they'd even attempt to make him an ambassador. He's too young, knows nothing about politics that we have seen, and if the only reason Starfleet wants him to do it is because he bedded her well...
Again, I'm afraid you missed this. Starfleet doesn't want anything of the sort. It is the Diplomatic Corps - think the equivalent of the State Department or Foreign Ministry or something - who is pressuring Starfleet to promote Mayweather so they (the Diplomatic Corps) can use him to get what they want out of a potential alliance with Krios Prime. ADM Forrest specifically blocked their attempt to snatch Travis and his warning to Archer was intended to allow the captain to come up with excuses why Mayweather couldn't leave.
I guess I don't see Precious Cargo making such a huge impact.
It's an AU. In the Mayweather chapter I pretty clearly tried to establish that it had a slightly great impact than in canon because Travis very likely talked up the Boomer experience, which led to the opening of new trade routes and a possible loose alliance. Hence, in this universe, it is more a big deal.
Plus? I tend to look at more realistic aftermaths of events than canon Trek which will generally have major events and then never address the ramifications again (e.g., experimental brain surgery in Similitude, or the events in Cogenitor, and so on.)
As for ff.net there are very good reasons I don't use it anymore.
But you read it there, right? I get anonymous reviews all the time - a person doesn't have to be logged in to fanfiction.net to actually leave a review, so I don't quite understand the problem.
Would you be willing for me to PM if I wan't to write a review?
If you wish. I just don't see the issue with anonymous reviews over there...
