Re: March '09 Word Prompt!
Yes, these challenges are good. This month's actually got me to dust off an old beginning and finish it. Escriba's take is just something... it's like an AU roller coaster, an emotional one.
Thank you, Aquarius, for this great idea, and for doing it!

Re: March '09 Word Prompt!
I had started a story, but I couldn't find a nice explanation for what happens to the crew. But tonight, when I put my youngest to bed, I came up with a idea. Mmm... my story Back up was also inspired by him. Now I have to find the time to finish it!
Love is a verb.

I'm glad you like it, JzK. And you're so right about Escriba's piece.
I'm also glad to know that there are more nature stories coming, too!

Re: March '09 Word Prompt!
A little attempt, not edited and very short.
I don't know if you will enjoy it, but it sprang spontaneous out from my heart.
Night. Silence. Trip and T'Pol. They made love and are resting, the one in the arms of the other.
And T'Pol thinks.
Which's the things' nature?
Duty? Logic?
Love?
Vulcan path?
Human path?
What?
I learned, and you too.
I and you learned... my Trip.
It's what we are, what I am, what you are.
Me.
You.
Me together with you.
This is the things' nature.
Yes, I think this a little-great truth: two souls together, as one. If this happens, nobody and nothing can defeat them.
This is the thing's nature.
And this is the pompous title of my small challenge.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.
But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Asso, how can we not love what comes from your heart. Your love of all things T'Pol and Trip is legendary.
Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are. (Mason Cooley)

That is a wonderful poem, Asso. Maybe you could post it in the Poetry-section.

March '09 Word Prompt: Nature
Overheard: Nature, Green in Tooth and Claw
Ahhh, the hush of the early day. The crispness of the air, the little breeze scented with the fragrance of my garden’s flowers…Oh, Surak. Now what?
A childish wail of grief pierces the air. It comes, naturally, from my neighbor’s house. What now has happened to disturb the morning’s peace?
“Da-deeeee!!!”
“Don’t cry, honeybunch – tell daddy what’s wro…eewww – what’s that in your hand, princess?”
“Oh, Daddy, it’s Zihn!”
Hmmm…I assume this is the name of one of the child’s many pets. Really, such excess is unnecessary. Surely one sehlat is enough for a child her age. Now sobbing ensues.
“Zihn? Your K’Bet? Where did you find him?”
“I left him in the courtyard, playing in his hamster ball, and when I came back, it was all smashed, and Zihn was…was…d-d-dead!”
More sobbing. The child’s emotional control is not good. Still, I recall the response of my own offspring to the death of our family pet. Kahat, faithful companion to my children, and to me before them...grief is the most difficult of emotions to suppress.
“Husband! Elizabeth! What is going on?’
“Just a minute, darlin’. Honey, you go in the house. Calm down and wash your face. Daddy’ll find a box to hold Zihn, and we’ll give him a nice funeral. Scoot, now.”
Funeral? For a K’Bet?
“A funeral, husband? For a K’Bet?”
“Nothing elaborate, T’Pol, just a chance for Lizzie to say goodbye. I’m more concerned with how this happened.”
“I am afraid it was Taluhk, Trip We trained her not to disturb the cages, but neglected to instruct her as to the hamsterball.”
“So she just cracked it open for the tasty treat inside, huh?”
“I believe so. But it is we who are at fault, not she.”
“You’re right. Shit! What are we gonna tell Lizzie?”
“Please refrain from swearing, husband. It sets a bad example to our child. We will have explain it to her”
“I vote we tell her it was some wild sehlat that jumped over the wall.”
What? Vulcans do not lie!
“Vulcans do not lie, Trip. We will explain it to her. She will understand and forgive Taluhk. Eventually. Come. The morning meal is waiting.”
“And I gotta find that box…”
*Sound of a door closing.*
Child, I grieve with thee.

Re: March '09 Word Prompt!
evcake, that's hilarious. With the other one you should begin a "Neighbors' series"
And Asso, good work, trovatore Although I don't know much about poetry. But your language is always a little poetic, so I guess it's good.

I love this neighbor's perspective series you have going, and I do hope it gets posted in the fanfic section!
That is too perfect!evcake wrote:Funeral? For a K’Bet?

Wow, thanks for contributing this month, Asso and evcake! I was delighted to see your responses.
evcake--again I love the "overheard" concept. I think you should develop it more! Maybe an entire TnT story told from the perspective of people who've overheard them! These are such a blast.

Thanks! and:
Apologies to Tennyson, the goddess of punctuation, and BnB, if I stole the K'Bet.

Re: March '09 Word Prompt!
So I'm feeling pretty accomplished today because I just sent my response off to Beta Land, and it's quite possible I'll actually only be a week late getting this one up!
I hope we have some more entries for this one. I love seeing what everyone comes up with.
The April prompt will be posted sometime between tonight and Tuesday, so stay tuned...

Re: March '09 Word Prompt!
Should we be announcing in this thread when we have a story for the prompt? Mine's been up for a while and I only mentioned it was for the March prompt in the genre tag for the story. But "Sentience" is my March 'nature' contribution.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.
