Here is the explanation: short stories/long stories take about equally long to post. About 1 hour each. So by gluing your your three short stories together, Alelou probalby saved herself 2 hours. And since this is a volunteer job and your three of your chapters equal one of other people's chapters in length . . . .

I have noticed that what ever amazing elements one puts into their story, everyone comments only on that last few paragraphs, so one is always tempted to break a story down into shorter chunks, but . . . ah well . . . you have to trust that people enjoyed the whole story if they made it through to those last few paragraphs.

I would suggest not sending in the next part until the last part is posted if you want to make sure they run separately. JustTripn is right -- aside from any editing or coding involved (and a lot of our authors do most of the coding themselves), most of our effort goes into putting in the templates and the links, getting a new page for reviews, uploading and downloading the files back and forth, checking to make sure they're all right, fixing problems, putting the announcement up, and then updating the related pages. It would indeed have tripled the workload to do all that for each of those extremely short chapters, and right now I have more fics waiting for attention and a very busy weekend in real life. In fact, we've actually discussed having minimum page length requirements here for chapter posts, though I think we ultimately decided that every story is different.

If you want to completely control your posts, fanfic.net is your best bet, assuming you're not doing anything NC17. You are still welcome to announce publication and provide links in the "New Fanfic Up" thread, or in your own thread.
