Re: Any Southern Literature fans out there?
While the people of Atlanta probably consider Gone With the Wind Southern canon, I doubt most English professors would. It's really considered popular culture. Anyway, I'll let you know how many of my students have read it. I'm not sure this generation (up here) will even have heard of it. I have r...

Re: Any Southern Literature fans out there?
I'm not sure how modern you're trying to get but I could recommend The Prince of Tides and/or Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. There's a special kind of madness and hysteria that comes out of the Southern mystique.

Oh Lawsy! I have a whole playlist! But the one that always gets an "OMG PERFECT" out of me is Gordon Lightfoot's If You Could Read My Mind . The movie references, the inability to walk away/difficulty with doing so, acting in a way you never thought you would, discussion of mind reading......

Re: Bio-poem game
SB, you guessed correctly; I was just trying to be polite and wait the rest of the conversation out. So. Here goes. And for the record? First letter in my username is an L, not an I. :) I wish I had pushed him a little harder about breaking rules Like so many others in Starfleet seem to have done. A...

It was on the news today at my lunch hour -- two major earthquakes in Italy within a month -- and I thought of you Asso. Can we assume that, since you're posting, you and yours are indeed okay?

I feel old... 11 Sounds That Your Kids Have Probably Never Heard I'd heard and/or used all of those except the percolator, and that was mostly because neither of my parents drank coffee. But I'm only 37. I am not old . No I'm not. Uh-uh. The fact that my friends used to tease me because I could typ...

Hmm. I wish I had never heard of the insensitive ones, Like a warped image of truth within my mental landscape. And I dream of days spent with my brother the way we did we were children. I am strong; that's what they all say, especially him . I used to dream of a world beyond my icy walls. But now I...

Re: What happened?
2. Trip does not and would never enter into a sexual relationship with a married woman. Except in the Daedalus novel . ** SPOILER ** But even that was extenuating circumstances; the woman's husband was a walking vegetable, and Trip was rather in extremis both physically and emotionally. The book al...

Re: Vulcan Full Name
I'm pretty certain that according to canon at least T'Pol, Spock, Tuvok etc... are "given" names. But it is an interesting thing to play with. One's last name and one's "given" (i.e., personal) name need not be mutually exclusive. That was my point about bringing up Asian cultur...

Re: Vulcan Full Name
One idea that I've run across in a lot of places is the idea that Vulcan clan names are their first names. There's precedent for this one on Earth -- in many Asian cultures, one traditionally puts the surname (family name) first. I think this is also true in Hungary. This idea would mean that T'Pol ...

Re: What happened?
There is a good reason why many fanfic stories take their plot AU before or during home, because for some (me included) the TnT relationship jumped the shark at that point. Kotik , out of curiosity, when did you become an ENT fan -- before or after the cancellation? Reason I am asking this is becau...

Re: What happened?
I also find it hard to believe that any woman would find such a man really attractive. He hasn't got any problems in the looks department, but can a man, who lets someone whack him hither and tither like that, really be attractive to a woman? Clearly Kotik and T'Pol were not meant for each other. :...
