Re: Marriage

When you think how much distance you could cover if you just head in a straight line for a couple of years, and then visualise the volume enclosed by a sphere of that radius, the volumes of space within reach of these space-faring races seem literally astronomical. Then consider how close you have ...

Re: Jonathan Frakes *the_abomination* Q&A: "Unpleasant Memo

I can't believe that anyone would have deliberately written a plot with the intention of p!ssing off their audience, even though it was clearly the last show. I think they did exactly that. The deliberately took a crap all over the show. B&B where ousted after season 3 in favour of Manny Coto a...

Wow, that...well, sucks. My regards to those who need it (a postcard might be a bit impractical from here since by the time it arrived it'd probably be late September 2056 or something ;) )...

...gotta say, if we're putting the cast of Enterprise up as Musketeer characters, then T'Pol is definitely not Lady DeWinter (she's a villainess!...if anything, it should be T'Pol as Mme Bonacieux (a married woman in a marriage of convenience who ends up with D'Artagnan) and Raijiin as De Winter... ...

Re: Why is TV SF so bad? (And a modest proposal to fix it)

Look what happens when a writer or visionary has full or near-full control of their material (whether through being famous or through making a low-budget thing), we get awesomely great shows that break stereotypes and becomes long-term cult hits. Then look what happens when a major *studio* has ful...

Re: Why is TV SF so bad? (And a modest proposal to fix it)

I'm studying, among other things, Dramaturgy (as in the *craft* of writing scripts), and one thing that gets hammered into us from the writer of the main course lit (Linda Seger) is that "No matter how great and continuity-laden and scientifically correct your script is, it *will* be mangled to...

Re: CX anime reviews

Just read some of your latest reviews and wanted to point out that the big MacGuffin in Titan AE isn't a space ark, it's something that actually makes sense when you know what it is. Okay, bear with me here. The Drej is a race made of energy. They can manipulate it freely and make hard-light constru...

So...ah... <.< Who else is playing Star Trek Online? >.>

I gave in to the sweet call of my shoulder devil (since my shoulder angel left with my urge to write a while back, I think she's getting drunk on Ibiza right now) and plunged into the game a few days ago. First ship was USS Heronas ( :D ), current ship is the USS Elizabeth. Naturally my main charact...

Re: Happy 10th Anniversary of ENTERPRISE!

Actually J.J. Abrams, while a Trekkie, was very open about the fact that he didn't care for Enterprise . That Porthos comment was his lame attempt to tip his hat to Enterprise fans and acknowledge our existence . . . and he screwed it up. Ah well . . . I forgive him. The movie was awesome. As is yo...

Re: Happy 10th Anniversary of ENTERPRISE!

One thing I realized as I watched the new Star Trek movie was that whoever wrote a certain part of the script was probably also a fan, since they included Enterprise in the new canon (and it occurred to me that when they say "Admiral Archer's prized beagle" it's probably not a living canin...

Re: Justice in early Starfleet

Well, best description I've gotten is that it's more like a living person in a combination of a low-effect microwave oven and freezer, with no air to breathe. The pressure difference isn't great enough to make anything explode, but the temperature and radiation and eventually lack of air will kill ...

Re: May We Together Become Greater Than The Sum Of Us by WG

In fact, women displaying such behavior in even the tiniest manner was one of many signs of a mental illness based in the ovaries, known as "hysteria" (other signs being showing signs of willpower, intelligence and opinions of their own, for example). Thus the word hysterectomy. I wish I ...

Re: May We Together Become Greater Than The Sum Of Us by WG

Makes absolutely no sense to me, but thankfully she hasn't succumbed yet. That's another thing in these books, it's always the man who wants to hit the sheets. And the women whine and moan and "reluctantly" exchange passionate kisses, then whine and moan about how they "Can't be invo...

Re: May We Together Become Greater Than The Sum Of Us by WG

This has got to be the most overused line in romantic fiction "The kiss was brief but thurough" I stole a book from the hospital waiting room this morning (no it didn't have a name on it) and I gotta say, I can't possibly tell what a brief but thurough kiss is! If I ever use that sentence...

Re: JustTripn & eK venture into the watery wolfy wilderness!

I've always found it hilarious that so many Americans are convinced Scandinavia is this frigid wasteland when in fact it's more temperate than most of Northern USA. Alaska not included. I mean, half of Sweden is on the same latitude as southern New England and New York. And it's mostly coastline, to...
